Your tour starts at the downtown ferry terminal where you will board your ferry for the 40 minute scenic ride to Waiheke Island. Along the way pass a number of the islands of the Hauraki Gulf - including Auckland's most recent addition, the volcano of Rangitoto Island.

On your arrival at the island, your Waiheke Explorer bus will be waiting for you at the ferry terminal, where your dedicated on board host will provide a map and timetable for the day. You may also choose to download a digital version of the timetable and route on the MyTours app.

If you wish you can stay on board the bus for a scenic 1.5 hour drive around the island, or hop off at one of the 17 stops along the way. Buses come by approximately every hour, and there are a number of great attractions to visit and explore.

You may want to visit some of the world class wineries that make the island home. Or try some of the artisan producers and taste goods such as olive oil, cider, beer, oysters, fresh bread and more. There are numerous art galleries and shops in the main town of Oneroa, or perhaps jump off and take a walk through the native bush or along the fantastic beaches.

Your ticket is valid all day - ferries depart Auckland on the hour from 9am, with the return ferries departing Waiheke on the hour into the evening.

How long is the ferry ride to the island?

The ferry takes approximately 40 minutes each way

Will the crossing be rough on the ferry?

No, the ferry is crossing the inner harbour so the seas are usually very calm.

Can I take any ferry to Waiheke?

Yes, you can take any Fullers Waiheke ferry from 9am onwards. You can also choose any of the return ferries from the island, allowing time of course to make it back for your cruise departure.

The tour is shown as 5 hours long, is the total time we can spend on the Island?

No, we have listed the duration as 5 hours as we think this is the minimum amount of time you need to make the ferry crossing and at least do the full 1.5 hour coach tour with an hours stop at one of the many locations on the island. You can stay longer if you wish.
